The body is as young as it is flexible.
The Yogic physical exercises are called Asanas, a term which means steady pose. This is because the Yoga Asana (posture) is meant to be held for some time. However as this is quite an advanced practice, our concern is simply to increase body flexibility. Yoga exercises focus on the health of the spine, its strength and flexibility. The spinal column houses the all-important nervous system, the telegraphic system of the body. By maintaining the spine's flexibility and strength through exercise, circulation is increased and the nerves are ensured their supply of nutrients and oxygen. The Asanas also have a positive effect on the internal organs and the endocrine system (glands and hormones).

Class Descriptions

Sivananda Yoga
Sivananda Yoga is a Classical Yoga program designed by Swami Vishnu-devananda, a disciple of Swami Sivananda Saraswati. Classical yoga awakens the body, mind and spirit to its true potential. This series is designed to strengthen muscles, increase flexibility, detoxify the system and unlock your hidden inner potential. Although there are many asanas (8,400,000 according to the scriptures) the practice of the 12 basic postures and 2 breathing practises in Classical Yoga brings out the essences and major benefits of the body.

This is a multi-level class that encourages students to work at their own pace.

Hatha Yoga
These classes are designed to help release physical tensions while soothing the mind and spirit. Focusing on breath and movement, the asanas (postures) enhance physical balance and flexibility as well as promote mental alertness and inner equilibrium. Students are encouraged to work with their own natural pace and rhythm.

Men's Hatha Yoga
This class gives men a time where they can practise yoga with their peers. Recognising the specific needs of men’s physiology, this class is designed to increase flexibility and balance. Yoga has been shown to improve golf skills, flexibility for hockey goalies, improve squash games and much more! Practising yoga decreases the risk of injury for all sporting activities.

Beginner’s Yoga
This is a gentle class that teaches the basic asanas (postures) of classical yoga. The emphasis is on proper breathing, posture and alignment, and balance. Intermittent relaxation between postures allows for the absorption of the benefits of the poses. This yoga class is designed for those new to yoga, recovering from injury or under a good deal stress. A great class for all ages and levels.
